Building on the inaugural FED Farm Project success from last year, the focus this year is to provide garden starter kits to 500 individuals or families in the Greater Victoria area whose food security has been disproportionally impacted by COVID-19. The Parks and Recreation Foundation of Victoria (PRFV) recognizes food security’s fragility, especially for those who have been laid off or had their hours of work significantly reduced due to COVID-19. PRFV approved funding to cover the cost of supplying startup garden materials for 20 individuals or families. Garden starter kits include the delivery of planters, soil, starter plants and seeds. Besides garden supplies and information packages, program participants can access educational resources and a chatroom for guidance and support in producing fresh food for consumption.
