The Gorge Park Community Gardens provide access to land for people who may not have gardens of their own and a place where they can produce food for their tables, meet with each other, and learn from one another.
The garden enhances ongoing efforts to upgrade the quality of Gorge Park as well as the health and vitality of the neighbourhood.

The Victoria-Morioka Friendship Society built this garden dedicated to Dr. Inazo Nitobe, a world renowned Japanese statesman who was born in Morioka and died at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria while visiting Canada in 1933. The site of his death is now formally acknowledged with the Dr. Inazo Nitobe Memorial Japanese Garden, open daily for use by hospital patients, staff and members of the visiting public.
The Park & Recreation Foundation and the Victoria-Morioka Friendship Society are currently working on adding a marker with a plaque giving information about Dr. Nitobe and the garden.
