Public Art Project: A Tribute to Front-line Health Care
The bare wooden boards that serve as fencing at the former Plaza Hotel site on Government Street and Pandora Avenue became a magnet for tagging. This location had been a source of frustration for the neighbourhood since before the fire destroyed the landmark hotel on May 6, 2019, as the Plaza Hotel had previously stood empty for nearly six years. The Parks and Recreation Foundation of Victoria (PRFV) supported bringing positivity to the site through artwork. The PRFV provided funding support for local artists Ian Morris and Niko Mavrikos who transformed the wood fencing into a tribute for front-line healthcare workers fighting the COVID-19 Pandemic.
